All rides should begin no later than 9:00 am.

Day 1: Fly into Rome

-Travel to Ovindoli by rented vans
(Mario will pick up and load vans)
-Orientation of town and surrounding area
-Lunch: explore the town with a quick bite
-Grocery shopping (for lunches, snacks, etc.)
-Assemble bicycles
-Dinner in Ovindoli at il Ghiro Hotel | Trip Advisor
Day 2

-Breakfast (optional)
-Ride #1: Rocca di Cambio Loop (50 km) | Map
-Lunch: enjoy on your own or with the group at one of the local establishments
-Explore local attractions such as the ruins at Alba Fucens, the medieval castles of Celano, downtown Avezzano, and the town bike shop
-Dinner at il Ghiro Hotel
Day 3
-Breakfast (optional)
-Ride #2: Ovindoli – Secinaro – Forca Caruso – Celano – Ovindoli (90 km)
(This ride includes two major climbs and one minor climb)
-Lunch: enjoy on your own or with the group at one of the local establishments
-Enjoy a locally-guided tour of the ancient Roman city of Alba Fucens
-Drive back to Ovindoli
-Dinner at il Ghiro Hotel
Day 4: Rest Day/Free Day

-Optional Activities: Sleep in, enjoy typical Sunday activities of small-town Abruzzo, explore the surrounding countryside, horse back riding, mountain bike rentals, or relax
-Hikes (optional): Pian di Pezza area, Monte Magnola, or tour the surrounding countryside
-Optional ride: Rocca di Cambio Loop (50 km) | Map
-Lunch: enjoy on your own or with the group at one of the local establishments
-Optional afternoon activities: Drive to Hadrian’s Villa and Tivoli Gardens; drive to Rocca Calascio/Santo Stefano di Sessanio to tour medieval towns and fortress (#1 attraction on Trip Advisor!)
-Dinner at il Ghiro Hotel
Day 5
-Breakfast (optional)
-Ride and activities: one of two options, dependent on weather and conditions
–Option A – Ride: Pescina – Scanno – Passo Godi – Pescina (100km)
Ride is a scenic bike tour of Il Lago di Scanno
(Subject to change: may be shortened by 30 km, but note that return trip is mostly downhill)
-Lunch: Drive to Villetta Barrea
-Sightseeing and enjoying the beach at Lake Barrea (optional)
-Drive back to Ovindoli
-Dinner at il Ghiro Hotel
–Option B – Ride: Gran Sasso Climb (60 km) | review | recommended route
-Lunch in L’Aquila or in open air BBQ at Resto Mucciante (as featured on the TV show Dream of Italy)
-Sightseeing in L’Aquila (we recommend bringing some wet wipes and change of clothes). Sites include the historic Basilica di Santa Maria di Collemaggio (built in 1297) that was restored following damage in the devastating 2009 earthquake.
-Dinner in Ovindoli at il Ghiro Hotel
Day 6
-Breakfast (optional)
-Ride: Vasto – Ortona – Vasto (80km)
This ride offers a tour on flat terrain via a bike path along the ocean
-Lunch: enjoy on your own or with the group at one of the local establishments
-Afternoon sightseeing in Ortona: war museum dedicated to famous WW2 battle, Canadian cemetery
-Ride: return to Vasto
-Enjoy the quiet and isolated beach at Punta Penna | Trip Advisor
-Dinner – Option 1: dinner and sightseeing in Vasto, which features many cliffside restaurants with ocean views
-Dinner – Option 2: dinner in Ovindoli at il Ghiro
Day 7

-Breakfast (optional)
-Ride: Blockhaus Climb (60 km) or Gole di Celano (Celano Gorges) hike (3hrs) or Rocca di Mezzo loop (50 km) – all three options are challenging … but doable!
-Lunch: enjoy on your own or with the group at one of the local establishments (options vary depending on choice of activity beforehand)
-Return to Ovindoli
-Pack up bikes and luggage
-Visit local pub
-Dinner at il Ghiro Hotel
Day 8
-Breakfast (optional)
-Drive Fiumicino Airport
-Depart from Rome
