When does Can-Abruzzo Tours travel to Italy?

Can-Abruzzo Tours offers trips in the early summer and late summer/early fall for ideal conditions. Please visit our dates and prices page for proposed trips. Cyclists are encouraged to indicate all available dates to ensure proper capacity per trip.

 

How many riders are on a typical trip?

Each trip includes founders/guides Mario Panetta and Greg Mullen, along with a maximum of 12 riders per tour.

 

What is provided on each tour?

Each tour includes accommodations, pick up and drop off at Fiumicino Airport in Rome, travel to all rides and group excursions, breakfasts and dinners, guided travel on bike rides and tours, and Can-Abruzzo Tours jerseys.

 

Are flights included?

No. Cyclists are required to book their own flights in and out of Fiumicino Airport.

 

Do you provide travel insurance?

Cyclists are required to provide their own travel insurance.

 

What about lunches?

Lunch is an optional opportunity for riders to enjoy on their own or with the group during various trips. Each lunch is à la carte.

 

How experienced a rider should I be?

Can-Abruzzo Tours caters to immediate and advanced riders. The suggested skill level requires a comfort with road cycling, knowledge of the rules of the road, and appropriate cycling etiquette when on a guided tour of this nature.

Many of the rides will be in the Apennine Mountains and require climbs that are sustained for various distances. Some rides along the beach area of the Adriatic are relatively flat. However, many rides include both ascents and descents in the Apennine mountain area.
This trip is designed for riders who want to experience cycling in rural Italy and enjoy the beauty of the natural environment of the Abruzzo region. Riders should enjoy leading an active healthy lifestyle with cycling as a preferred pastime.
Riders will be asked to indicate their level of ability upon booking:
  1. Intermediate – Able to cycle continuously for at least 50 kilometres sustaining a moderate speed in undulating rolling terrain (may be able to extend distances when in a group ride situation)
  2. Advanced – Able to cycle in various terrain for sustained distances that includes multiple mountain climbs and descents. You have the ability and experience of using appropriate pacing when climbing and have the experience required to safely negotiate long descents that frequently include linking switchbacks.
